I've Been Waiting For You, Michael/Jan, 5.15, PG
emjay; time after time

Five-fifteen is when he normally pulls into the driveway and cuts the engine. He steps out onto the paved driveway and looks up at the house, the condo... the place that looks so different to him now, yet exactly the same.

He knows she's in there, which is why he lingers outside. He's not sure what kind of mood she'll be in today. He doesn't know if he's going to walk in on her crying about a Band-Aid commercial, if she's going to be seething and ready to stick a shiv in his back about the absence of her Grape Nuts, or if she'll just be passed out from a combination of her medication and her favorite wine.

Taking a deep breath, Michael glances down at his feet as if commanding them to move, and starts up the walk. Before he reaches the stoop, the door is pulled open and there's Jan -- in her sweats, just as she promised just before they moved in together, waiting for him.

She smiles. "Michael! You're home early."

He furrows her brow, confused by not only her greeting, but her state of mind. "I am?"

"Yeah, it's only five after."

"Oh." He shakes his head slightly, as if to shake off the dream he's obviously having -- Jan's never in a good, much less stable, mood. "Clock in the Sebring must be fast."

Another smile and Jan leans out the door to kiss him. "Well welcome home," she murmurs, and moves aside so he can come in.

"Thanks," he murmurs back, and takes off his jacket slowly. He almost says 'Good to be home,' but he's not so sure it is yet.

"I hope you don't mind, but I ordered Thai tonight. I tried cooking, and..." Jan chuckles, brushing her gently-curled sandy hair out of her eyes. "Let's just say it didn't turn out very well."

"Oh!" Michael finds himself smiling back. "That's alright. Thai sounds good, babe." He pecks her lips again.

Her kiss lingers as she grasps his arms, pulls his arms around her waist. In between kisses, she grasps his tie and asks against his lips, "Feel like wasting some time while we wait for the delivery guy?"

"Just us," she promises. "No cameras, no dress-up, nothing."

"What's gotten into you?" he can't help asking. Because seriously -- who is this woman and what the hell has she done with the new Jan? This chick is like... the old Jan. Post-Jamaica, pre-crazy.

She grins. "Nothing! I just missed you is all. I've been waiting for you."

For now, Michael decides as she leads him upstairs, he can accept that answer.
